Sayings of the Salaf

Love for the Sincere

Harim ibn Hayyan رحمه الله said: "No servant turns his heart sincerely towards Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, except that Allāh turns the hearts of the believers towards him, granting him their love and compassion."

[al‑Zuhd Ahmad b. Hanbal]

With Hardship Comes Ease

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "All the pains and sufferings in this world in comparison to the pleasures of the Hereafter and its khayrat (blessings and bounties) is by far more insignificant than a tiny speck, in comparison, to the mountains of this world."

[Shifa al-Aleel (p.251)]

Whoever Wants Allah's Aid

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymeeyah would search a lot to find people to help them with their needs. This was because he knew that everytime he helped someone then Allah would aid him."

[Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, (1/168)]

On Being Pleased with Allah's Decree

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "Be pleased with everything that Allah does with you. For indeed, He does not prevent you except to give you. He does not test you except to protect and save you. He does not give you ill health except to cure you. He does not give you death except to give life to you. So beware of not being pleased with Him even for the blink of an eye, such that you fall in His eye."

[Madarij as-Salikin, 2/208]

How About In Our Time?

Ibn Hajr al-Asqalaani رحمه الله said: "Indeed, we find the quickness of passing of days in our time which we did not find in the times before our times, and the truth is that the meaning is the wrenching away of blessings from everything even the blessings of time and that is from the signs of the approach of the final hour."

[Fath Al-Bari, 13/19]
